Astrology and Alchemy

What Determines Our Destiny?
Humans are electrochemical beings. The solar system is an electromagnetic field. All energy has a vibration. We are vibrational beings in a vibrational universe. If we can learn to read our energy, we can work with time and space to empower ourselves to be the best we can be. Alchemy is to transmute form, one energy to another… that is the goal of Feng Shui and knowing your Four Pillars.
In Chinese Metaphysics, everything in the Universe is expressed in a language that follows a set order that can be interpreted and understood relating to time and space. Chinese astrology is considered by scholars to be one of the world’s oldest forms of astrology.
The Four Pillars of Destiny is a scientific tool used by the Chinese to determine the cosmic components of each person. They use a system in conjunction with the Hsia Calendar {10,000 – year Calendar}, which records the elemental influences prevailing in our lives at any moment.
The Hsia Calendar helps us to translate our birth information- year, month, day and hour of birth- into our Four Pillars of Destiny {also known as Eight Characters of Ba Zi in Chinese}. Each pillar yields two elements as in 2006 the year of the Fire Dog, the dog is actually an earth element or 2006 has had a fire and earth influence on people.
So how does this system work? It is based on the belief that the Universe works within a Pattern Language. In the Beginning there was nothing…. the Wu Chi, a primal energy that was empty and full at the same time, the beginnings of yin and yang. Yin and Yang give birth to countless patterns of existence. Together with the five movements of energy commonly called the five elements; fire, earth, metal, water and wood, they give birth to what is called 10,000 things. It is incorrect to think of the five elements as static elements, they are actually representative of phases of energy. Wood is an upward phase, fire expands, earth is stable, metal contracts and water flows down. The interaction of yin and yang and the five phases is the bases of Four Pillars chart. All these vibrations interact with each other in cyclical patterns. These energies can be interpreted to tell you about a person’s character, behaviour, family, social relationships, wealth, etc. It allows you to know when you are at different potentials. The Four Pillars lets us determine the strengths and weaknesses in our destiny and the ups and downs of our luck cycle and yearly influences. We are able then to work with this knowledge and use good days to enhance or minimise this energy to our advantage.
Each of the five elements has characteristics that are passed onto us. All of us have usually a predominance of two or three elements in our charts. Wisdom, flexibility and creativity is associated with water. Wood symbolises honesty, kindness and fairness. If you have a lot of fire in your chart you are bright, have integrity and a quick wit, be careful with your temper though as fire leaves a mark.
Earth people are reliable, stable and also noted for their integrity. Justice and decisiveness are qualities of metal as well as metal people are known for their analytical and sharp minds.
Each pillar consists of a Heavenly stem and an Earthly branch. The stems and either yin or yang and one of the five elements, the branches are either yin or yang but they may contain as many as three elements. In the year of 2006, the fire dog, the fire is the Stem and the animal is the branch. The dog is earth, as well as fire and metal.
The stems and branches interact with each other in a supporting or opposing manner. Just as in Western astrology, there are combinations and oppositions etc. The elements have different strengths depending on the season they are born. There are 12 cycles of growth, but generally speaking wood is strong in spring, fire in summer, metal in autumn and water in winter. Earth is special, there are four earth months compared to two for each of the elements. If you are born in an earth month or fire month, the earth will be stronger.

Each pillar represents different areas of your life. The year pillar is your grandparents; the month pillar is your parents as well as your career. The day pillar represents yourself and your spouse and the hour pillar relates to your children.
Besides the Birth chart, we are all born with a luck cycle. Luck is not necessarily good, it depends on what element cycle you are in and how that effects your chart that determines if you are now in good luck or not.
I was recently in China and had the opportunity to study with 5 Feng Shui masters. I was privileged to have had readings with a few of them. It is common for them to read your face and hands along with your birth data. The belief is “As above so below”. Your destiny and life can be read in your body as well in your chart. I would hear them talking to people saying things like you are noble, your words are gold, your cycle for marriage is coming up, watch out for your health this year.
It is still common for couples to have their charts done to see if there is a lasting bond and positive future indicated and above all the possibility of male heirs. Four Pillars can easily detect whether one will have children or not and when.
It is important to the Chinese whether they will have good social status, whether they will have a good steady job that comes perhaps with some fame. Another common question for astrologers in China is whether it is safe to travel on the chosen day selected.
We look at astrology differently in the west. We are not raised to understand that we are imprinted with energy at birth. Four Pillars is a wonderful tool, with an understanding of yourself, one can navigate through life with more confidence. There is a time to take chances, there is a time to study, there is a time that is for relationships, there is a time for spirit.
The year of the fire pig is quickly upon us. The solar calendar starts the New Year with February 4th, the lunar calendar start is February 18th. The nature of the animal determines how it rules the year, setting the trend for the year.
The pig’s cosmic composition is wood and water. Agriculture and anything relating to wood and water should do well. The pig is known as a peace maker, he is honest, hard working and very sociable. Most pig people enjoy great material wealth and partying.
There is a travel star this year for the rooster, ox and snake. People born with these animals in their four pillars will be doing more travel than usual. The dragon and the horse will be prone more to worry this year as the pig is an anxiety star for them.
The pig is good friends with the rabbit and sheep and Tiger. All these animals can expect a good year over all. The pig clashes with the snake, clashing indicates movement. You can expect to move jobs or homes this year and at the very least it will be an exciting year.
Of course this is just general and an in-depth look will give you a more exact look at what is going on for you. Chinese metaphysics is about understanding the relationship between heaven, earth and man.
God works in a pattern language, by understanding your astrology you can use that information to transform yourself and space to the best it can be. The transforming of energy to me equals Alchemy.
May 2007 be full of blessings that turn your life into gold.
